A few weeks ago we wrote a little blog entry on marvellous Women to coincide with International Women’s Day. We’ve felt inspired to show off some amazing Women in our lives that we have been lucky enough to hang out with and photograph, Women in business who strive to achieve their passions, and what better time than now as we launch our Women’s Portraiture Collections to the world!
In the fourth of our Spotlight series we ask florist Stephanie Eastwood who owns Verbena Styling our questions of the moment…
Tell us who you are, the name of your business and a little about what you do…
What inspired you to start your business, and what drives you as a woman in business today?
Becoming a florist was always a childhood dream and after following a more academic route after I finished school I followed my dreams and retrained as a florist. I feel so lucky to have a career doing something I love and this is what drives me and my business. Its hard work and long hours but knowing I can get up in the morning and not dread going to work makes it all worth it.
Tell us a little about your most recent shoot with Venetia and what personal branding means to your business.
My shoot with Venetia was incredible. I have recently rebranded my business and I am in the process of having a new website designed. I knew I needed a set of beautiful photos to showcase my work but also photos of myself. I needed professional imagery showing the person behind the business and convey through these images how I work and where I gain my inspiration. As soon as I spoke to Venetia I knew she was the photographer I needed. She immediately put me at ease and I feel we had an instant connection. The shoot was a huge amount of fun, so relaxed and the photos are just incredible!
What is your greatest achievement as a woman? (Can be in your business, your personal life, something massive, something silly, something you feel proud of)
My greatest achievement as a Woman is having my own business and doing a job I love. It’s an amazing feeling to deliver wedding flowers and to see the look on the couples face when they see the flowers, the realisation that I created this and had the honour of playing a part in such an important day in someone’s life is a a privilege and to say that is my business is a massive achievement.
Name a woman that you admire and tell us why (can be anyone at any level)
I don’t think I could name just one Woman, I admire so many Women for so many different reason but I particularly admire anyone who has the courage to follow their dreams. It’s very easy to just keep going as things are and spend your life saying I’d love to do that, I wish I could do that. I admire anyone who has the courage to follow that dream however big or small it may be.
This years theme for IWD is #pressforprogress – Are you happy to share a point in your life where you feel you have had to stand up for gender parity / work hard against / press for progress etc.
Men and Women are very different, we have different ways of doing things and different ways of thinking. As Women we need to press for change so that these differences are embraced, both in the workplace and life in general.
And finally, If you were organising a parade in celebration of IWD, which Woman or Women would you create a statue of for pride of place on the float?
There are so many Women who I would have on my float but as a Woman with my own business I think I would have to fill it with Women Business owners. You are all incredible inspirational Women and together we would have the most incredible float and have so much fun in the process!
